SPRING 2013 SENIOR THESIS EXHIBITION
Graduating IAIA seniors present their work in the student gallery, in addition to the Digital Dome. The opening reception is from 5 – 7 p.m. April 24. Music will be provided by the IAIA Music Club.
The show running March 28 – April 11, 2013, celebrates some of the best artistry of the IAIA community as it is comprised of items created and submitted to the annual American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) student art competition. The exhibition recognizes and shares the tremendous talent of IAIA students, and features work not only judged best at IAIA but best among Indigenous colleges and universities across the country.
SENIOR THESIS EXHIBITION
The 5th Annual IAIA Art Rush is a live art event from 5-10 p.m. August 30, 2012, in the gallery. Primitive Edge brings together IAIA students, faculty and staff for a night of food, fun and art. Materials, supplies and snacks will be provided. The art created during “The Rush” will be showcased in the gallery September 6 -20, which is open to the public. Many works are for sale. The annual Art Rush kicks off the exhibitions in the gallery for the academic year.
ART IN THE RAW
Primitive Edge will host the annual Art in the Raw student exhibition October 4 – 25, 2012, in the gallery located in the Administration Building.
Art in the Raw began in 1999 when IAIA was located on the College of Santa Fe. In response to censorship issues at that time, students from both the IAIA and CSF rebelled against the restrictions in the display of the artworks. Art in the Raw is still continued through student initiative and is the only IAIA exhibit, which is entirely in the hands of IAIA students.
The Art in the Raw exhibition showcases all types of artworks and mediums submitted by IAIA students. Students have in past years taken this unique opportunity to discuss the changing continuation of their lives and work, make statements and express their perspectives on current social, political, environmental concerns. No matter the content, no matter the medium, no artwork is turned away.
Deadline for proposals is September 7. Artwork is due by September 28.
Terran Kipp Last-Gun has been selected as the student curator for the exhibition. He is available to answer questions about submitting for the exhibition in Primitive Edge during some public viewing hours or by email at email@example.com.
