ART IN THE RAW - IAIA STUDENT EXHIBITION

Insightful, personal, cultural and contemporary, the twice-annual exhibition called “Art in the Raw” gives all Institute of American Indian Art (IAIA) students the opportunity to use their considerable talents to make whatever kind of statements they wish.
Some Institute talents take the wide-open parameters of Art in the Raw as an opportunity to roll out new directions in their art. Others employ the show as a vehicle for discussing the changing condition of their own lives, while some artists project their perspectives on current social, political and environmental concerns.

Art in the Raw will feature work from many IAIA students, representing the wide range of creative skills taught at the Institute. The show is a one-weekend, once-per-semester event. The opening reception takes place on Thursday, March 23, 2006, from 5 to 7 pm.

For those interested in discovering where the leading edge of contemporary American Indian art is heading, Art in the Raw is an opportunity to witness what the students at the nation’s top American Indian art program are making for themselves and their friends.

Among the artists participating in Art in the Raw are Val Sireech, Dwayne Manuel, Karl Duncan, and Cougar Vigil. The show is curated by the IAIA Art Club.
