IAIA MUSEUM’S FIRST FILM SERIES CELEBRATES

Searching for an informative, entertaining and inspiring way to celebrate a springtime Sunday? Look no further than the IAIA Museum, where on five Sunday afternoons (and one Saturday afternoon) from March 19 to April 23 the Museum will showcase works by many of today’s most highly regarded Indigenous filmmakers. Children’s films will be featured on Saturday, April 15.

The films, which range in length from 7 to 84 minutes, will be screened starting at 2 pm in the museum’s Helen Hardin Performance Gallery. These screenings are free with regular museum admission. Discussions about each Sunday’s films will follow their presentations. The March 19 screening begins at 3:30pm.

Guest Curated by IAIA student Alicia Da Silva, the film series places into proper context the social conditions and creative process behind some of the works of art exhibited in Changing Hands: Art Without Reservation 2. This recently-opened show features more than 130 of today’s leading contemporary Indigenous artists.

“It’s our hope that this outstanding selection of works by acclaimed filmmakers and directors from across North America will shed new light on the important and ground-breaking examples of contemporary Native art on display in Changing Hands: Art Without Reservation 2,” said John R. Grimes, Museum Director.

Changing Hands: Art Without Reservation 2 is on exhibit through April 30, 2006.
