ETHEREAL VISION OF NATURE’S REBIRTH

Now that the chills of late winter have officially been banished from the Santa Fe landscape, artists (and everyone else) have eagerly turned their creative attentions toward the rites of spring.

For many, the seasonal shift is a time for tending to flower beds and vegetable gardens. But for others, the longer days and warmer nights unleash creative forces that can best be dealt with in their studios.

Count Keri Ataumbi among the latter group. For this former IAIA jewelry instructor, the promise of spring’s arrival was the trip-wire for nothing short of a creative explosion. And in her new, one-woman exhibition in the Lloyd Kiva New Gallery of the IAIA Museum Store, Ataumbi has assembled a stunning tribute to nature’s delicate power.

Expressing herself through both paintings and jewelry, the artist has extrapolated touchstone elements from the environment around her Santa Fe studio and has paid homage to their roles in spring’s flowery drama.

From winged butterflies to cherry blossoms and majestic birds, the artist has pulled together an exhibition that radiates with simple honesty, balanced against a confident range of skillful expressions.
