INUIT DANCE COMPANY CELEBRATES IAIA MUSEUM’S NEWEST EXHIBITION

As the IAIA Museum opens its newest exhibition, “Our Land: Contemporary Art from the Arctic” (Oct. 21 to Feb. 4), a group of seven members from the 30-member Arviat Imngitingit company of Inuit dancers and throat singers will visit Santa Fe and participate in the exhibition’s opening festivities.

Based in the community of Arviat, in the Kivalliq region of Canada’s Nunavut Province, the Arviat Imngitingit company has distinguished itself as one of Canada’s foremost performing arts organizations representing First Nations culture. The company’s repertoire includes Inuit Throat Singing, A-Ya-Ya Singing, Drum Dancing, and Gospel singing in English and Inuit languages.

The company members traveling to Santa Fe for the opening of Our Land are Jeffrey van den Scott, Karen Panigoniak, Gara Mamgark, Katelyn Sulurayok, Angela Mukyungnik, Pamela Arualak and Caroline Angalik.
