IAIA SPRING POW WOW & ALUMNI REUNION WEEKEND

IAIA’s graduating Class of 2007 will host the Institute’s annual Spring Pow Wow on the IAIA campus this Saturday, May 12, from 10am until 10pm. Festivities will take place on the Dance Circle outside the Library & Technology Center entrance.

Brilliant blue skies, elaborate ceremonial attire, energetic dancing, delicious foods, hand-crafted art objects, warm smiles and a shared sense of fellowship are what visitors to IAIA’s 140-acre campus on the south end of Santa Fe can expect at this free, open to the public, family-friendly event.

In addition to the Pow Wow, Saturday will also mark the second annual Alumni Reunion, set to take place from 8:30am to noon in the Cultural Learning Center.

IAIA students and alumni will be joined by professional musicians such as the Zotigh Singers of Albuquerque, as well as professional pow wow dancers.

Saturday’s events get underway at 10am with a Gourd Dancing program that continues through 6pm. The first Grand Entry takes place at noon, with a second Grand Entry taking place at 7pm.

Dance competitions include the Women’s Jingle Dance, the Men’s Fancy Dance, the Couples Two-Step, and the One-Man Hand Drum Dance.
