NEW IAIA PRESIDENT TO BE INAUGURATED IN FORMAL CEREMONY

Dr. Robert G. Martin (Cherokee Nation) will officially take the helm as President of the Institute of American Indian and Alaska Native Arts and Cultures (IAIA) in an October 11, late morning ceremony on the IAIA campus Dance Circle.

Many of the nation’s top American Indian leaders in government, education and business circles are expected to be in attendance. Dr. Martin, who has previously served as President of Haskell Indian Nations University, Tohono O’odham Community College, and the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute, becomes the leader of IAIA, the nation’s only Tribal College focused on preparing its students for careers in the arts.

Before making his move to Santa Fe, Dr. Martin was a member of the faculty and Associate Head of the American Indian Studies Programs at the University of Arizona.

Members of the press who wish to arrange an interview with Dr. Martin are requested to schedule their interviews on the three weekdays leading up to the October 11 Inauguration ceremonies. Contact John Villani at 505-424-2351 to set specific interview dates and times.

A detailed press release with an Inauguration ceremony schedule will be released on October 3.
