Two Rising Stars Launch Contemporary Show of New Work

As one of the Southwest’s premier art venues specializing in contemporary Native American expression, the IAIA Museum Store on Cathedral Place in Santa Fe inspires artists and collectors to connect with Indigenous spirit and creativity.

An upcoming exhibition of Cody Sanderson’s sterling silver jewelry and dimensional objects, along with Ryan Singer’s paintings and drawings infused with pop culture irreverence, present a strong example of how the IAIA Museum Store has enlisted tomorrow’s American Indian art scene all-stars.

Sanderson’s remixing of traditional object forms allows this New Mexico-based Dinè artist the freedom to draw upon his contemporary concepts of style while retaining the functional integrity inherent in these objects. His flasks, for instance, might well hold fluids. But why clutter this master silversmith’s clear vision?

Singer, who also is Dinè, has shaped his career as an urban artist in downtown Phoenix’ burgeoning and determinedly hip studio / gallery scene. His surrealist parodies of modern culture are balanced against reverential odes to his Native heritage, all of which are filtered through a painterly style that’s distinctly his own.
