FALL POW WOW CELEBRATES INAUGURATION OF PRESIDENT

As IAIA’s newly named leader Dr. Robert G. Martin prepares to formally be installed as President of the nation’s only Tribal College focused on fine arts education, the multi-Tribal student body of this Santa Fe-based school is planning a more traditional way of celebrating his arrival.

On Saturday, October 13 the IAIA student body will be joined by IAIA alumni from across the nation, as well as numerous American Indian singers, dancers, drummers and crafts vendors who follow the Pow Wow circuit when a special “Inaugural Celebration & Pow-Wow” is held on the IAIA campus dance circle to mark Dr. Martin’s formally becoming IAIA President on Thursday, October 11.

Pow Wow dancing gets underway at 10 am on Saturday October 13 with a traditional Gourd Dance followed by a noon Grand Entry onto the school’s main campus dance circle. A special ceremony within the regular pow-wow festivities will take place between 1:30 pm and 2:00 pm when Dr. Martin will be honored through a series of songs and dances.

As always, the Santa Fe community is invited to IAIA’s 140-acre campus on the city’s southern border (adjacent to Rancho Viejo) to observe and even take part in the pow wow.
