Four IAIA BFA Students Display Painting, Photography, Jewelry, and Sculpture in Senior Exhibitions
IAIA’s twice-yearly celebration of graduating students’ talent and vision continues with this month’s exhibitions of contemporary work by four graduating BFA Seniors. The shows, which pair two artists for an eight-day exhibition run, take place in the Primitive Edge Gallery on IAIA’s campus. For their Senior Thesis Exhibitions each artist has created a body of work whose images deal with matters of identity, social issues impacting Native communities, and concerns ranging from economic justice to the pursuit of beauty.
The first of these shows takes place from Nov. 8 to 15 and features the elegantly crafted and decidedly contemporary jewelry and cultural objects of Craig Kelly, whose show is titled “Remembrance by Reinvention”. April Holder, who is also featured from Nov. 8 to 15, creates a multi-media installation titled “the third world”, comprised of art rendered entirely in tones ranging from black to greyscale to white.
The second exhibition takes place from Nov. 20 to 29 and features work by two painters, Audrey Dreaver and Joshua Stone. Stone’s “Memories on Fire” show is comprised of richly hued works on the subject of recovered memory, while Dreaver’s paintings show is titled “Two Aliens and a Duck”, taking a humorous look at the curious combination of two iconographic images from popular culture.
