The Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) is pleased to announce the recipients of the National Endowment for the Arts Renna Arts Scholarships. For 2008 - 2009 they are studio arts majors Luther “Jackie” Pliant, III (Creek/Cherokee) and Daniel Remmenga (Ponca Tribe of Nebraska), and new media arts majors Bryan Parker (Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma) and Joseph Turnipseed (Aztec).
These awards have been made possible by the National Endowment for the arts as part of the NEA – John Renna Arts Scholarship initiative. As part of that program, IAIA received $100,000 in 2008 to give a Renna Scholarship to eight students a year until 2011. Pliant, Remmenga, Parker and Turnipseed were selected in this round because of their commitment to excellence, creative expression, hard work and dedication as exemplified by their grades, attendance record and high level of participation in student activities.
For more information about this program, including how to apply for future scholarships, please call Jim Rivera at 505.424.2345 or email jrivera@iaia.edujrivera@iaia.edu. For more information about the Institute of American Indian Arts, please visit www.iaia.edu.
