MoCNA Second Floor Conference Room and Artist Studio

Courtney Leonard, MoCNA’s current Local Artist In Residence, will give a talk from 2 – 3 p.m., and open her studio to the public from 12 – 4 p.m.

Leonard is an artist and filmmaker from the Shinnecock Nation of Long Island, New York. Leonard’s work explores the evolution of language, image and culture through mixed-media pieces of video, audio and tangible objects. She studied art and Museum Studies at IAIA (A.F.A. 2000), Alfred University (B.F.A. 2002), and the Rhode Island School of Design (M.F.A. 2008). Her current work embodies the multiple definitions of Breach, an exploration and documentation of historical ties to water, whale, and material sustainability.

Leonard has given lectures and exhibited nationally and internationally, most recently at Toi Ngaphui Northland College, the Museum of Art and Design, Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, Eastern Connecticut University, Tribeca Film Institute, National Museum of the American Indian, University of the Creative Arts Farnham, and the University of Rostock. She currently lives in Santa Fe and works as a professional artist, lecturer, and teacher at IAIA.
