STUDENT SERVICES

Center for Student Life

Classroom

The Center for Student Life provides comprehensive support services to enhance the student’s educational experience and foster their academic, social, personal and cultural growth. The Center provides an atmosphere that is conducive to student learning, creativity and the respect of diversity. Student Life accomplishes its mission through its predominantly American Indian staff who provides a wide range of services in counseling, student housing, activities and recreation, student transportation, health and wellness, career and job placement, student leadership development, student clubs and organizations, new student orientation, and student discipline.

Dean of Students

The Dean of Students is responsible for the non-academic areas of student life and oversees the student service programs. The primary leadership responsibilities of the Dean are supervision and management of the Enrollment Management and Student Life departments, provides support for the student clubs and organizations, and provides direction and coordination of all areas for both housing and off-campus students. The office of the Dean of Students is located in the Student Life Administration Building.

 Healing Circle

The goal of Healing Circle is to assist and support students in successfully navigating through the stress of college life and its environment. The Healing Circle is located in the Library Technology Center and it offers a place to reflect and relax on campus. The Healing Circle staff is Counseling Coordinator, Jane Oliver and First Year Experience Coordinator, Diane Reyna. Come by and take advantage of the quiet space and services.

Counseling Services

The Counseling office is located in the Library Technology Center and offers students an accessible, confidential counseling program that includes individual, group and supportive counseling. The counselor assists students with adjustment to college life, substance abuse prevention, academic concerns, and interpersonal relationships. Referrals can be made through housing, faculty, family and self-referral. Appointments can be made by contacting the Counseling Office at 424-2344.

No Daycare Services

The Institute does not provide childcare services for students. Students with children should contact the Center for Student Life at (505) 424-2337 to request a list, with phone numbers, of local childcare centers in the Santa Fe area.

New Student OrientationNew Student Orientation

At the beginning of each semester the Institute hosts a 1 week orientation program for new students. The program is required for all 1st time and transfer students for an introduction to campus life, and to help them adjust to college life at IAIA. Students develop an awareness of services and activities at IAIA, and become familiar with the campus, receive academic advice, and are offered other opportunities to participate in programs designed to foster personal growth.

Career Arts Development and Placement Center

The Institute of American Indian Arts and the Career Arts Development and Placement Center (CAD/PC) provides services that empower students and alumni to successfully seek their professional aspirations by supplying information on scholarships, internships, grants, and employment opportunities on and off campus. The Career Arts Development and Placement Center does not secure admittance to other schools or employment for students, but rather works with each individual to determine what would be the best approach to implement their educational and career choices. Our intentions are to assist students and alumni as they develop their career and academic endeavors, through formal/informal resources, one-on-one meetings, career development workshops, availability of college/university catalogs, MFA program presentations from other colleges and universities, and a weekly CAD/PC newsletter.

Student Transportation/City Bus Transportation

Student transportation is provided to classes held at the IAIA Museum and to officially prearranged IAIA sponsored activities. Transportation is also provided to and from the Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) city bus stop for bus transportation to any location in the city of Santa Fe. An IAIA van transportation schedule is posted on bulletin board throughout the campus and the city bus schedule is available in the library and student housing office.
