The Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) Museum Store hosts two IAIA alumni, Paul Moore (Chickasaw) and Frank Buffalo Hyde (Onondaga) for a show of their latest work March 20 – April 19. The public is invited to an opening reception on March 20 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. As always, art work on display is available to purchase and proceeds benefit the Museum.

Paul Moore was born in Oklahoma and raised on the west coast of Canada. He has traveled and lived in the United States, Mexico and the Bahamas. A graduate of IAIA, Moore has become a full time artist and splits his time between Mexico and the U.S. He has experimented in many artistic mediums including photography, sculpture and furniture design and elements of this often spill over into his new work. Bringing mostly jewelry to the IAIA Museum Store exhibit, Moore says that his intent is to bring beauty into the world through his work. However, he approaches this concept with a lighthearted attitude and an occasional bit of whimsy.

Born in Santa Fe, Frank Buffalo Hyde (Onandaga) grew up in central New York and later returned to New Mexico to study at the Santa Fe Art Institute and the Institute of American Indian Arts. He has been exhibiting his work for 14 years in Santa Fe, Chicago, New York and San Francisco. His paintings contain contemporary subject matter in order to convey the reality of the Native American condition, reacting against the Southwest’s tradition of serene and stoic Indian portraits. In his work he struggles to define himself as a Native American without being seen as a stereotype.
