Joyce Bond, Santa Fe Marketing Public Works Department, (505) 955-6852

Rancho Viejo residents, students, commuters, shoppers, and clients of the State Human Services Department will benefit from a $100,000 grant from the North Central Regional Transit District by way of a new Santa Fe Trails bus route, Route 22, that will begin service on Thursday April 9. For the first few weeks, Santa Fe Trails vans will drive the route, which begins at Santa Fe Place then travels to stops near Kohl’s, the Human Services Department and the Santa Fe New Mexican complex, the business park at the entrance to Rancho Viejo, the Institute of American Indian Arts and the Academy for Technology and the Classics, three stops at Rancho Viejo and ends at Santa Fe Community College. Vans will be used instead of buses until Santa Fe Trails’ staff can determine ridership numbers.

All adult fares are free until May 22, according to Jon Bulthuis, Transit Division Director.

“We really want people who live or work or attend school south of town to take advantage of this new bus route and offering free fares for a month should give the novice rider an incentive to try the Trails, ” Bulthuis said. “All children and youth 17 and younger always ride free.”

Santa Fe Trails’ staff is available Monday through Friday to help new riders plan their trips. Call 955-2001 or stop by the Trails’ office at 2931 Rufina for schedules and trip-planning assistance.
