The Expanding the Circle program at the College of Contemporary Native Arts is pleased to announce its “College Road Trip 2009,” a week-long journey July 19 - 25, 2009 to tour colleges and universities in New Mexico and Colorado: the College of Contemporary Native Arts, New Mexico Highlands University, the University of Denver, Colorado State University, the University of Colorado-Boulder and Fort Lewis College. Native American youth from New Mexico’s 22 tribes and Pueblos are currently being recruited to fill spots that will give them the opportunity to visit college campuses in the state, learn about each college’s admission procedures and see the academic programs offered at each college. Students will participate in collaborative learning activities throughout the trip, as well. Support and guidance will be provided by the Expanding the Circle staff and mentors. The program is free and includes housing, meals, transportation and admission fees.

To be eligible, students must be from one of New Mexico’s 22 tribes or Pueblos, entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior years of high school in the fall of 2009, willing to participate in the entire program from start to finish and have a parent or legal guardian that can attend the trip with them.

To register, please call Ben Calabaza at 505.424.5732 or visit www.iaiaetc.org. Applications must be received by July 3, 2009 and students will be notified of their selection by July 6, 2009.
