In a town full of nonprofit fundraising events, Under Construction: LIVE PAINT!, a two-day event, promises to be different.

On day one (February 6, 2010, 12:00 noon – 7:00 p.m.) alumni, students, faculty and staff of the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) will create original works of art live and on-site at the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts. A DJ will provide inspired ambiance while artists paint and draw on the spot. Work created during the event on Saturday will then be exhibited in the Museum’s main gallery on day two (Sunday, February 7, 2010, 12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m.) and available for sale through a silent auction. Proceeds from art sales will be divided between the artists and a fund to purchase student work from the 2010 IAIA BFA Graduate’s Exhibition held at the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts March 5 through May 13. There is no admission for the event, and all are welcome to enjoy the energy around such spontaneous creating.

“We are excited to turn the museum's main gallery into a studio for one day for the IAIA community to paint for the public.” Ryan Rice, Chief Curator, said. “We can’t wait to see what transpires.”
