ENDOWMENT NEEDS
The stability and opportunities that an endowment will provide will have
a dramatic impact on the overall stability of the Institute. To provide
the greatest financial benefit for the future operations of the Institute,
the main investment objective of the Endowment Fund is to gather and preserve
capital while providing real growth in value.
GENERAL ENDOWMENT: Goal $40 million
In spite of its history of artistic excellence and prominence, the
Institute has virtually no operating endowment. If IAIA is to approach
the future strong and vital, it must have a solid financial base, one
that enables us to carry out our mission regardless of fluctuations in
the economy and federal support. With a long-term goal of $40 million,
endowment funds will support academic expansion, provide for general institutional
needs, and enhance the Museum’s endeavors. We envision a fund that
generates revenue that supports the enhancement and expansion of the academic
program through additional course offerings. The stability and opportunities
that an endowment will provide will have a dramatic impact on the overall
stability of the Institute. Endowment funds will be used to:
- maintain, revise, and enrich ongoing programs;
- acquire library, text and instructional materials;
- support the research, professional development, and special initiatives
of the faculty; and
- support guest and visiting faculty positions.
SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT: Goal $10 million
Gifts to the Scholarship Endowment will give more students the opportunity
to receive an education at IAIA. Students from nearly every state in the
nation have come to study at the Institute. They are from rural areas,
reservations, and urban communities. The Scholarship Endowment will provide
financial support to approximately 300 students annually once it reaches
the $10 million mark. Achievement of this goal will ensure continuity
and enrollment growth, providing the enrollment security necessary for
fiscal stability and for ongoing programming vitality.
Named Scholarship Opportunities
Gifts of $50,000 and above offer the donor an opportunity to establish
a permanent, individual or corporate named scholarship fund which will
be part of the IAIA Scholarship Endowment Fund.
Program Scholarships
A gift of $25,000 can be earmarked to support specific programs of study.
Programs include: creative writing, museum studies, painting, sculpture,
jewelry, printmaking, performance arts, traditional techniques and the
visual communications program.
ENDOWED ACADEMIC CHAIRS
Lloyd Kiva New Endowed Chair in Design and Applied Arts: Goal $1 million
Annual income from this $1 million endowment will fund a permanent new
faculty position for the Lloyd Kiva New Endowed Chair in Design and Applied
Arts. The faculty member chosen for this position will chair the Design
Arts Department, a new and much-needed addition to the school, whose curriculum
will feature Fashion Design/Fiber Arts, Environmental/Applied Arts, and
Electronic Graphics.
The Design Arts Departments’ curriculum will give IAIA students
the opportunity to study and concentrate on fashion design, merchandising
and marketing; furniture, interior and landscape design; and pre-architecture.
Beyond the enormous economic potential for commercial applications and
careers, the new Design Arts program will offer students the most far-reaching,
creative tools possible to express their artistic and cultural legacy.
In addition, this department and its chair will revive the dream of the
late IAIA President Emeritus Lloyd Kiva New, with its concentration on
fashion design and fiber arts, as well as honor his commitment to IAIA
and Native American education.
Endowed Chair in the Visual Communication Program: Goal $1 million
Annual income from this $1 million endowment will fund a permanent faculty
position for the Visual Communication Program. The faculty member chosen
for this position will chair the Visual Communications Department and
will oversee the program’s three major areas: Graphic Design, Interactive
Design and Motion Design. Through the Visual Communication Program, students
will be able to bring their creative thinking into fruition using the
most advanced technologies available.
The following Endowed Academic Chairs are also in need of funding. The
Annual income from a $1 million endowment fund will support one permanent
faculty position who will chair that respective department:
Endowed Chair for the Performing Arts Program: Goal $1 million
Endowed Chair for the Arts Management Program: Goal $1 million
Endowed Chair for the Creative Writing Program: Goal $1 million
Endowed Chair for the Museum Studies Program: Goal $1 million
Endowed Chair for the Studio Arts Program: Goal $1 million
