His practice focuses on complex domestic and international disputes and legal problems, including both civil and potential criminal cases, internal investigations, corporate compliance and arbitrations.

San Francisco Magazine and Law & Politics Magazine have consistently named him as one of the “Super Lawyers” in the Bay Area. Before moving to California in 2000, he practiced in Washington, D.C., where The Washingtonian magazine rated him among that city's leading lawyers.

Loren was raised in New Mexico, attended Stanford University and received law degrees from Oxford University and the University of New Mexico. He then clerked for two federal judges on three courts. He has been a trustee of IAIA since 1994 and was its chair from 1997 to 2001. He is on the board and audit committee of the national Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights. He is also on the board of and is a past co-chair of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area. Since 2001, he has been a member of the National Advisory Board of Stanford’s Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity, the umbrella organization for the University’s African and African-American, Chicano, Native-American and Asian-American Studies Programs, as well as its interdisciplinary graduate research center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity. He has held and continues to hold key leadership positions with the American Bar Association and its Section of Litigation.
