Patsy Phillips is the Director of the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, a center of the Institute of American Indian Arts, based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Before joining the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, Phillips worked at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. from 2000 to 2008. Phillips is a founding member of Indigenous Arts Action Alliance (IA3) – an independent group of Native artists, educators, scholars and administrators who advocates for the advancement and understanding of contemporary Native American arts. Phillips holds an MA in Writing from Johns Hopkins University, a Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies from Harvard University, and a B.A. in Anthropology from Southern Methodist University. She is an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
