What kind of weather should I expect in Santa Fe?

The weather in Santa Fe is unpredictable. In the winter we do get snow, but often by afternoon, it will melt. We rarely get snow that stays. The saying around Santa Fe is, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute”

What type of activities does Santa Fe offer?

Santa Fe is an Art Mecca. There are always art shows and openings, plays, and music happening around town. If you enjoy winter sports or spring camping, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains are close by.

I don’t have a car. How will I get around Santa Fe?

Santa Fe has a city bus system, Santa Fe Trails. It has stops at our campus and connects to all areas of the city.

In addition, The New Mexico Rail Runner is a rail system that runs from Santa Fe all the way south to Belen, with many stops in between. NM Rail Runner offers free connecting shuttles. including to and from the airport (called the Sunport) in Albuquerque and from the 599 station to the our campus.

SF Trails and Rail Runner schedules are available around campus.

Student Life also has a student shuttle service, which is used for medical appointments, large item purchases and internships. The shuttle service requires advance notice.

How far is Santa Fe from the IAIA Campus?

The downtown area (The Plaza) is 10 miles or a 15-minute drive. The Santa Fe Place Mall is 4 ½ miles or 7-minute drive.

How do I get from Albuquerque International Airport to the campus?

For different fees, there are a couple of options:

Sandia Shuttle runs vans from the ABQ Sunport to Santa Fe several times a day. Also, the ABQ Ride, route 250 runs from the Sunport to the Rail Runner station. Ride the Rail Runner to Santa Fe, 599 station. Make sure you call the campus for pick up at the 599 station.

What is there to do for fun around campus?

Most evenings, Activities will offer some type of entertainment, from on-campus activities to movies in Albuquerque. Student Life also has a recreation area with table games and equipment for check out. New to IAIA is the Fitness and Wellness Center where students can work out.

What kind of Healthcare is available?

Healthcare is not currently available on campus. For non-emergency situations, i.e. colds and refills, our Native American students who are eligible can utilize the Santa Fe Indian Health Service hospital. For our non-Native students, there are two urgent care clinics nearby. Housing and/or transportation will provide transportation.

I’m over 21 years old and occasionally like to have a drink. May I drink on campus?

Whether you’re over 21 or not, alcohol and drugs are not allowed on campus. IAIA is a Drug and Alcohol free campus. Expulsion and/or arrest is a possibility.
